Do Trophy Amish Cabins qualify as Park Models or meet residential building code? NO; we build a Genuine custom high quality solid log cabin, using Amish milled lumber. Trophy Amish cabins are NOT mounted on a trailer & do NOT have serial numbers for DOT. We market our cabins as Weekend Getaways or Hunting Lodges. We do have clients that live in their cabins, year round, but we do NOT market them as residences.
Due to the stringent National building code energy standards, we do not meet residential specifications as a residence. Pennsylvania, South Carolina & Maine have exempted log cabins from the normal energy compliance regulations. Check with your local building department, each building department enforces their local code & could have special exemptions for a Family Campground, Seasonal cabin, Camp, etc.
Do cabins come standard with a bathroom and kitchen. NO; all cabins start out as a completed shell delivered price, then you ad the options that you desire; bathroom wall, door, vanity, kitchen cabinetry, bunk beds, all season screened in porch, extra windows, screen door are all availble options. You may order a shell or a completly finished cabin.
Do you provide site prep & hook up utilities? NO, we deliver your cabin to your prepared site. A flat level area 50% larger than the size cabin ordered, cap with 2" of crushed stone, that shuuld suffice. It's important that the cabin pad is compacted, flat & level.
Do you provide plumbing? NO; we operate a Genuine Amish shop; all of our workers ride to work in a buggy. As a licensed business we are required to hire a local Master Plumber; he charges us $100 HR. You would save money by plumbing your cabin yourself or hiring a local plumber in case you needed service in the future or if you encounter local inspection issues.
Do you finish electrical? NO; legally finished electrical must be inspected by the local building department in their jurisdiction. We offer Nationwide delivery and are not licensed as electricians in other states. We do drill the logs, router out the termination openings & run all the wire needed. You would need to install the little blue boxes, outlets, switches, ceiling fan, load center, etc & have your local inspector issue a final permit of completion.
Can i save money and order a kit? No; all cabins are custom built. If you need to build your cabin in a truly remote area where delivery with truck, trailer or Mule is impossible, a kit is an option, but not recommended. We would custom build your entire cabin, disassemble it, number it, stack it, deliver & unload where possible (not stained due to timing) add 10% for added disassembly labor.
Do you offer financing or Rent To Own? No; we are a relatively small company and currently do NOT offer any financing. Some Financial Institutions will loan money using property as collateral.
Do you build a 3 bedroom 2 bath cabin? NO, a 3 bedroom 2 bathroom cabin would be considered a log home, not a cabin. Cabins by their very nature are usually an open concept one room cabin with a separate bathroom & kitchen area.
Can i come to the shop and see my cabin being built? NO; we operate a Genuine Amish shop, our liability insurance does NOT cover guests and NO cameras are allowed.
I have access to a truck & trailer, can i pick up my own cabin? NO; all of our cabins are shipped as Over Size Loads and require O/S permits for each state. Our liability insurance carrier does NOT allow us to load a cabin onto a trailer they don't insure.
Can you connect two together? Yes, but we do NOT offer this option due to logistics. You may order two cabins and extra material and connect them yourself with a breezeway.
Can our cabin be placed over a basement or placed on piers? Yes; we will deliver your cabin on a tilting trailer; the cabin must come off the trailer at less than 30". You could have pipe handy, we would drop your cabin onto the pipe, you would drag it across the basement, then jack it up, remove the pipes and set. You could also rent a crane and have the cabin lifted onto piers.
Can i get a porch added to the long side of the cabin, as a lean too? You may order extra matching tin roof or shingles and wood posts stained to match and source the lumber locally and build onto your cabin after delivery. Due to logistics we do not offer this service. It doesn't make sense to have a truck & custom trailer siting for an extra day & added expense of an extra night hotel stay and meal expense for completion.
Do you offer saunas? Yes; but Saunas must be built using Poplar, Ash or White cedar, due to the materials they would be very costly.
Do you sell lumber? Yes; only in special cases where a client is renovating a Historic building and is required & restricted by the building department or Architectural Committee to use Eastern white pine ONLY, in an custom size that is not readily available. we are not in the lumber business but we could make an exception on a case by case evaluation.
